Berkshire Hathaway Unleashes $31 Billion from Cash Hoard
Berkshire Hathaway's massive cash hoard shrunk by $31 billion in just three months, from $397 billion to $366 billion. This reduction is significant because it marks a shift away from years of idle capital accumulation and towards actual investment.
The majority of this new spending went towards expanding Berkshire's stake in Alphabet, the parent company of Google. Specifically, it purchased an additional 54.2 million shares (worth nearly $36 billion) to bring its total holding to a significant position.
Other notable investments include increases in stakes for Delta Air Lines and Macy's department store chain. Additionally, Berkshire repurchased $4.5 billion of its own stock, more than quadrupling the amount spent on share buybacks in the previous quarter.
