Berkshire Hathaway's Top Pick: Why Alphabet Stands Out in the 'Magnificent Seven'
Warren Buffett's hand-picked successor, Greg Abel, oversees Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio, which has just been updated. The latest 13-F filing shows that while Berkshire holds positions in 26 different companies, five stocks make up a whopping 72% of its holdings.
The five dominant stocks are Coca-Cola, American Express, Bank of America, Apple, and Alphabet (GOOGL), the parent company of Google.
While it might seem obvious to choose Alphabet among these top picks, Berkshire's steady selling of shares in some of these companies suggests that Alphabet is a standout choice. Since the 1990s, Berkshire has not traded any shares of Coca-Cola or American Express, and it has been steadily selling Bank of America and Apple shares for several quarters.
Alphabet remains the most prominent digital advertising company, with Google accounting for 68% of its revenue in Q2 2026. Additionally, Alphabet's Google Cloud has evolved into a major revenue driver, holding steady as the third-largest cloud provider and supporting the company's AI initiatives.
