Berkshire's Massive Stake in Alphabet Has Little Impact on Stock Price

Berkshire Hathaway's increased stake in Alphabet has made headlines, but it hasn't had much of an impact on Alphabet's stock price. Despite Berkshire's massive $37.8 billion holding, which is valued at around 11.7% of its equity portfolio, Alphabet's shares fell by about 0.8%.

The $10 billion direct investment by Berkshire accounts for only a small portion of Alphabet's projected capital expenditure this year, which is estimated to be between $195 billion and $205 billion. In fact, it represents just 5% of the midpoint of this range.

Alphabet has been investing heavily in cloud infrastructure, with its second-quarter revenue from Google Cloud increasing by a whopping 82%. However, the company's free cash flow dropped by 74% compared to the same period last year.
