Bezos Unloads $4 Billion in Amazon Shares as Market Cap Hits $3 Trillion
Jeff Bezos is selling off $4 billion worth of Amazon shares as the company's market capitalization reached a record $3 trillion. The sale, which will see Bezos dispose of 15 million shares, marks his first major sale since late 2024. According to regulatory filings, Morgan Stanley will execute the sales under a pre-arranged trading plan established on November 14, 2025.
The sale comes just days after Amazon's market capitalization surpassed $3 trillion for the first time, driven by strong Q2 earnings that sent shares up 20 percent year-to-date. AWS, Amazon's cloud division, grew 37 percent to over $42 billion in revenue during the quarter, its fastest quarterly expansion in more than two years.
Amazon raised its full-year capital expenditure guidance to $220 billion after reporting total revenue of over $200 billion and operating income up 43 percent to around $27 billion. The stock fell by over 2 percent on Tuesday morning following the filing, a typical reaction to large insider disposals even when executed under pre-arranged plans.
Bezos has sold Amazon shares periodically in the past to fund other ventures, including Blue Origin and his acquisition of The Washington Post. In May, he donated 220,200 shares to nonprofits, reducing his reported holdings but not involving a market sale.
