Billionaire Investors Flock to Tech Titans in Q2
Billionaire investors made significant buys in Q2 for tech titans Alphabet (GOOGL), Apple (AAPL), and Meta Platforms (META).
The three companies are among the largest in the world, with iconic businesses that continue to drive growth.
Alphabet saw buying activity from Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and Renaissance Technologies' Jim Simons. The company's core Google search business has a large distribution moat due to its ownership of the Chrome browser and Android smartphone operating system, as well as a revenue-sharing deal with Apple.
Alphabet's cloud computing business is also growing rapidly, with an 82% surge in revenue last quarter. This is attributed to its tensor processing units (TPUs), which provide a significant cost advantage over rivals that rely on graphics processing units (GPUs).
Apple has been added to by George Soros and Jeff Gendell of Tontine Partners, with the company's closed ecosystem being a key driver of growth. This leads to higher-margin services such as cloud storage, app purchases, and Apple Pay.
META Platforms saw buying activity from Bill Ackman, Jim Simons, and Lee Anslie of Maverick Capital, among others. The stock has been beaten down on concerns over its aggressive spending on AI infrastructure but remains attractive with a forward P/E of 16 times 2027 analyst estimates.
