Bangladesh's Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to acquire 14 new Boeing aircraft in a deal worth around $3.7 billion.

The purchase has sparked debate, with some questioning whether Bangladesh should invest such a large sum when it faces economic pressures.

However, proponents argue that the investment will position Biman for long-term success and make Dhaka a competitive connecting point in the aviation industry.

The proposed fleet includes eight Boeing 787-10s, two 787-9s, and four 737-8s, which will be used for Middle Eastern, regional, and long-haul routes.

Biman's financial position is also a factor, with the airline having reported profitability for five consecutive years, generating Tk 11,559 crore in revenue in FY2024-25.
