Bipartisan Bill Seeks to Expand College Savings Program Nationwide
US Representatives Juan Ciscomani and Susie Lee are backing a bipartisan bill to expand a college savings program. The 'Learn to Earn Act' aims to create a matched-savings program for higher education, helping low-income students and adult learners pay for tuition, books, and fees.
The proposal is modeled on Arizona's Earn to Learn program, which has reportedly helped students save for school and graduate with less debt. Supporters of the bill say it could expand this model nationwide and reduce higher education costs and debt.
According to recent fundraising disclosures, Ciscomani raised $781.2K in July, with 67.7% coming from individual donors. He also disclosed $785.9K in spending and had $4.1M in cash on hand at the end of the filing period.
