BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, has taken a significant step into tokenization by launching blockchain-based digital tokens for its European money market funds (MMFs). The move covers $310.7 billion of its institutional cash funds, which will be issued as tokens on JPMorgan's Kinexys platform.

The tokenized MMFs will carry the same value as one share of the underlying fund and can be transferred directly through digital wallets by approved investors, regardless of time or location. This is a major development in the use of blockchain technology for traditional financial assets.

BlackRock's move into tokenization reflects a growing trend among global financial firms to adopt blockchain-based infrastructure. The market size of tokenized assets has grown to approximately $37 billion, with MMFs being one of the fastest-growing segments.
