Boakai Honors Sporting Legend with Visit to Coach Josiah N. Johnson
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., honored a sporting legend on Tuesday by visiting former Lone Star player and coach Josiah N. Johnson.
The visit was a formal recognition of Johnson's monumental contributions to sports in Liberia, particularly the development of soccer.
Johnson, affectionately known as 'JNJ,' played for the national team from 1958 to 1971 and served as Head Coach from 1971 to 1979, leading Liberia to victory over Ghana's Black Stars in the Six Nations Tournament.
President Boakai acknowledged that he has always been interested in nurturing Liberia's next generation of athletes, despite not being an athlete himself.
