Boeing 737 Hack Allows Rogue Device to Override Critical Flight Information
A new vulnerability in Boeing 737 aircraft has been discovered by cybersecurity researchers at the University of California, San Diego and Oberlin College.
The team found that a $100 device can be installed into an unlocked maintenance connector on the plane in just 60 seconds, allowing hackers to override the computer's signal and replace it with their own fake one.
This can lead to catastrophic consequences, including crashes caused by incorrect weight or trajectory information displayed to pilots.
The researchers warned Boeing about this threat six years ago, but only now has their paper detailing the hack been made public.
