Boeing 737 MAX 7 Receives FAA Certification After Years of Delays
The Boeing 737 MAX 7 has finally received certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after nearly a decade of review. The certification comes following two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019 caused by an anti-stall system known as the Manoeuvring Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS).
Boeing completed 441 test flights over 686 test flight hours to win certification, including FAA reviews of a revamped angle of attack sensor. The 737 MAX 7 was initially intended for delivery in 2019 but was delayed due to the crashes.
Shares of Boeing surged after the announcement, with Stephanie Pope, president of Boeing Commercial Aeroplanes, saying: 'This important certification validates the rigour of our aeroplane's design and recognises the determination and resilience of our 737 MAX development team.'
