Boeing 777F Sets Distance Record with Direct Flight from Sri Lanka to Australia
A Boeing 777F cargo plane has set an absolute distance record for commercial cargo flights by flying from Prestwick, Sri Lanka to Melbourne, Australia without making an intermediate landing.
The flight covered a distance of 16,986 kilometers (9,172 nautical miles) in 19 hours and 23 minutes, beating the previous test flight by an Airbus A350-1000ULR by about 98 kilometers.
The aircraft carried minimal cargo - just one pallet loaded with spare parts for a General Electric GEnx engine - which allowed it to carry maximum fuel reserves and complete the long-distance flight without stopping.
