Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines Foster Future Aviation Leaders through STEM Education Initiative

Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines have successfully completed their fourth joint STEM School program. The initiative aimed to equip grade 11 students from across Ethiopia with technical knowledge, practical experience, and inspiration needed for careers in aviation, engineering, and technology-driven fields.

The six-week program held at the Ethiopian Aviation University provided over 300 hours of immersive learning to selected students. 50% of participants were young women, reflecting the program's commitment to encouraging female participation in STEM fields.

Participants received classroom instruction, internships, mentorship sessions with industry professionals from Ethiopian Airlines and Boeing, and educational visits to aviation facilities. The curriculum prepared students for modern workplace demands by combining core STEM learning with emerging technologies like coding, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality (VR).

The program also emphasized soft skills such as teamwork, communication, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving. Students gained insight into the complex systems and specialized skills required to operate and maintain a modern aviation network through hands-on visits to Ethiopian Airlines' cargo, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities.
