Boeing and SPEEA to Resume Contract Negotiations Amid Wages Concerns
Boeing and its white-collar union, SPEEA, will resume contract negotiations on September 8. The two parties began negotiating on July 1, but union members voted to reject Boeing's previous contract offer last month.
The vote, which was overwhelmingly in favor of rejecting the offer, also authorized a strike that would begin when the current contract expires on October 6. Boeing had already implemented its 'strike contingency plan' in response, but details about what that entails are scarce.
In this new round of negotiations, SPEEA is focused on securing higher wages and cost-of-living adjustments for its members. Union representatives have made it clear that wages are their top concern, and they will not settle for anything less than a guaranteed wage increase upon contract ratification.
Boeing has stated that it looks forward to working with SPEEA to reach a resolution that benefits both employees and the company's competitiveness in the industry. The negotiations will impact about 13,000 engineers and scientists in SPEEA's professional unit and around 4,000 analysts, technicians, planners, and specialists in the technical unit.
