Boeing Awarded $29m Damages in 737 MAX Crash Lawsuit

A Chicago jury has awarded $29 million in damages to the family of Michael Ryan, an Irish-born United Nations employee who died in the Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX crash in 2019.

Ryan, a 39-year-old engineer with the UN World Food Programme, was one of the 157 people killed when the plane crashed in Ethiopia.

The civil suit against Boeing was brought by Naoise Connolly Ryan, Michael's widow, who had described her client as 'committed to seeking accountability and justice from a jury and not accepting money from Boeing directly.'

This is one of the final remaining civil suits pending against Boeing following the pair of deadly MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 that together claimed 346 lives.
