Boeing Braces for Third Strike in Three Years Amid Employee Unrest
A Boeing strike could be looming on the horizon as the company faces opposition from its employees. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) union, which represents around 17,000 engineers, scientists, and technical workers at Boeing, has voted to authorize a strike after rejecting the largest wage increase offered in more than four decades.
The proposed contract would have given employees a 3% guaranteed wage increase retroactive to February, as well as a 30% wage increase over the next four years. However, union members were also concerned about jobs being sent out of state and decisions made by engineers and technical staff being overruled by management.
Boeing is facing its third strike in as many years, with significant implications for aircraft production and delivery schedules. The 2024 strike in Seattle saw approximately 33,000 commercial airplane workers walk off the job for two months, halting key production and causing billions in financial losses.
