Boeing Celebrates Graduation of 2,600 African Students from Space Education Program

The Boeing Company celebrated the graduation of 2,626 high school students from its 'Pathways to Space' program on August 7. This marked the third edition of the program, which aims to build a pipeline of young aerospace talent in Africa's growing space sector.

Students from Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa participated in the five-month curriculum, covering basic principles of astronautics, systems engineering, human factors, and materials science. They also prototyped their own spacesuit concepts and conducted a high-altitude balloon mission to understand payload design and data-analysis skills.

Virtual sessions with former astronauts and space professionals from NASA's Johnson Space Center added career guidance to the program. The students praised the experience for deepening their understanding of space science and engineering, as well as developing teamwork, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
