Boeing Considers Restarting C-17 Production Amid Capacity Concerns

The C-17 Globemaster III production line has been closed for nearly a decade, but Boeing is now considering restarting it. The House Armed Services Committee has ordered the Air Force to deliver a feasibility briefing by March 1, 2027.

Congress wants answers on whether it's possible to build more C-17s and what the cost would be. The current plan is to fly the existing fleet through 2075, but that's raising concerns about capacity.

The Air Force has no comparable aircraft in production, making a restart crucial for strategic airlift capabilities. Boeing is studying the feasibility of restarting the line, citing 'early infancy' talks with an unnamed country at the Paris Air Show in 2025.
