State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has clarified that US Special Envoy Sergio Gor's remarks about Bangladesh purchasing more Boeing aircraft might have referred to a previous deal. The clarification comes after Gor said in a post on X that Bangladesh had committed billions of dollars to buy additional Boeing aircraft from the United States under a new deal.

Gor made these comments while discussing the political and economic dynamics shaping Bangladesh-US relations during his visit to the country from July 30-August 1. He met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, among other officials.

The purchase of Boeing aircraft was a significant part of Gor's remarks, but it appears that he might have been referring to an earlier deal. In April, Bangladesh signed a $3.7 billion deal with US aircraft manufacturer Boeing to buy 14 planes for its national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
