Boeing Deal Driven by Bangladesh's Aviation Ambitions
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir said Bangladesh's purchase of Boeing aircraft from the United States is driven by the needs of its aviation sector, not external pressure. The country aims to develop into an aviation hub in Asia and increase revenue and passenger numbers by expanding services on more routes.
To achieve this goal, Bangladesh will need a larger aircraft fleet. Citing Ethiopian Airlines as an example, Humaiun said that the country would require 70 to 80 aircraft over the next 10 to 15 years.
He stated that based on their needs, Bangladesh has made a policy decision to purchase Boeing aircraft. The minister emphasized that acquisitions will continue based on need and purchasing capacity, meeting aviation sector demand and developing into a hub for routes connecting Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.
