Boeing Delivers First Five CH-47F Chinooks to Egypt's Military Under $426 Million Deal

Boeing has delivered the first five of 12 CH-47F Chinook helicopters to Egypt's Egyptian Air Force under a $426 million foreign military sale agreement signed in January 2023. The deal aims to modernize Egypt's heavy-lift aviation capabilities, making it one of Africa's most powerful militaries.

The new helicopters will replace the country's aging CH-47D fleet, which includes aircraft acquired from earlier Chinook purchases and upgrades dating back to the 1980s and late 1990s. The F-model aircraft delivers improved reliability and performance compared with earlier versions while providing Egypt with a more advanced heavy-lift platform that reduces maintenance demands and improves operational efficiency.

According to Boeing, the CH-47F model will enhance Egypt's Chinook capabilities and help effectively accomplish its heavy-lift objectives. Ken Eland, Boeing's Vice President and H-47 Program Manager, stated this when the order was announced in January 2023.
