Boeing Delivery Slump Highlights Production Challenges
Boeing's July deliveries fell short of expectations, with only 53 commercial jets handed over to customers. This is a decline from June's 64 deliveries and trails Airbus' 67 aircraft delivered in the same period.
The delivery total for Boeing brings its year-to-date total through July to 367 aircraft, comprising 279 737 MAX and 50 787s. The company reported 38 gross orders during July, offset by eight cancellations for a net of 30 orders.
Among the notable orders was SMBC Aviation Capital's purchase of 100 737 MAX aircraft, including 60 737-10s and 40 737-8s. Boeing claims the 737-10 has now accumulated over 130 orders this year.
The contrast between orders and deliveries highlights Boeing's ongoing challenge of converting its substantial order backlog into a steady flow of finished aircraft. To address this, Boeing has opened its new Everett North Line to increase 737 production while maintaining safety and quality.
