Boeing Directors Cleared of Safety Breach Allegations
A Delaware judge has dismissed a shareholder lawsuit against Boeing's directors over safety claims related to a door plug blowout on a 737 Max 9 jet operated by Alaska Airlines in 2024.
The suit claimed that the directors breached their fiduciary duties by ignoring safety issues and approving a production schedule they knew couldn't comply with the law or be implemented safely.
Judge Morgan Zurn ruled that the directors didn't act in bad faith when overseeing management's steps to address safety, citing Delaware law which doesn't hold corporate fiduciaries liable for general risks materializing.
The ruling comes after Boeing faced shareholder lawsuits and renewed regulatory scrutiny following the incident, which didn't result in any fatalities but revived concerns over the planemaker's safety record.
