Boeing Engineers Authorize Strike Over Regulatory Documentation Process

Boeing's production of the 737 MAX 10 faces a significant labor standoff with its engineers and technical workers. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) has authorized a strike that would halt the regulatory documentation process, not physical assembly, which is essential for obtaining the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) type certificate.

The FAA certification status disclosures show that Development Assurance Reviews four (DAR 4) are roughly 60% complete and System Safety Assessments are approximately 32% complete on the 737-10 program. These reviews, performed by 17,000 engineers and technical workers, demonstrate that no single failure or combination of failures produces a catastrophic or hazardous outcome.

Boeing had previously passed the FAA's capstone review for Rate 47 and was running the line at that rate. However, its production momentum now confronts its most significant white-collar labor dispute in more than two decades. The strike authorization vote shows that 64.25% of ballots voted against a tentative agreement offer, which included a 3% general wage increase retroactive to February 2026 and annual salary pool adjustments.
