Boeing Engineers Reject Contract Offer Amid Mistrust Over Job Losses
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), which represents over 17,000 Boeing engineers and technicians, has rejected a contract offer that would have increased salaries by 29.4% over four years.
The vote, held on Friday, saw about 64.3% of the professional unit and 71.9% of the technical unit reject the contract, with some members expressing 'deep mistrust' towards Boeing management due to job losses and concerns about quality and safety.
SPEEA had initially endorsed the proposed contracts but later recommended that its members reject the deal after the union's negotiation team acknowledged its members' deep-seated distrust of Boeing management.
The vote authorizes a potential strike if an agreement isn't reached by October 6, when the current contract expires.
