Boeing Engineers Reject Contract Offer, Union Threatens Strike
Boeing engineers and technical workers have rejected the company's four-year contract offer. The 17,000 members of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) voted to reject the proposal, with union officials stating that the negotiation team has been given the power to call a strike when the contract expires in October.
The proposed contract would have provided wage increases tied to inflation, capped at 3%, as well as individual performance-based raises. However, several SPEEA members expressed concerns that capping inflation-based raises at 3% would result in their salaries falling behind inflation.
Boeing's CEO Kelly Ortberg had stated earlier this year that the company aimed to negotiate a contract that supports employees and creates clarity for the business. The offer was seen as a positive step, but ultimately rejected by the union.
