Boeing Engineers Reject Contracts, Set Stage for Possible Strike
A group of Boeing engineers and technical workers have rejected proposed collective bargaining agreements, potentially setting the stage for a strike if negotiations do not produce a new deal before current contracts expire on October 6.
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), the union representing aerospace professionals at Boeing, reported that members of its Professional Unit, which represents nearly 13,000 engineers and scientists, rejected the proposed contract with a 64.3% no vote.
In contrast to the negotiation team's unanimous endorsement of the proposal, the Professional Unit's Bargaining Unit Council did not reach the required 60% supermajority for a recommendation for or against the contract.
The Technical Unit, which represents over 4,000 analysts, designers, technicians, and other specialists, also rejected its proposed contract with a 71.9% no vote.
