Boeing Engineers Union Votes Down Contract, Authorizes Strikes
Boeing engineers union SPEEA voted down a proposed contract and authorized strikes, setting the stage for a challenging few weeks for the US planemaker. The union represents engineers, scientists, pilots, technicians, analysts, and other professionals working in five states.
The union said it would survey members on what they would need from Boeing to accept the proposal. Boeing Vice President Ben Nimmergut stated that the company gave a strong contract offer to position employees among market leaders in pay and benefits in the Pacific Northwest.
The earliest a strike could occur is October 7, according to Nimmergut. Boeing has no further talks scheduled with the union.
