Boeing Executive Appointed to University of Newcastle Role
Bill Lyons, a former Boeing executive, has been appointed as the University of Newcastle's next Pro Vice-Chancellor Industry and Engagement. He will take up the role on September 28, 2026.
Lyons brings over 30 years of experience in aerospace, advanced manufacturing, sustainability, and emerging technologies to the position. At Boeing, he spent 27 years in senior engineering, research, and global technology roles, including serving as senior executive director for enterprise technology strategy, capabilities, and partnerships.
He helped oversee Boeing's research partnerships with universities and national laboratories, managing its multibillion-dollar annual research and development investment. His work spanned areas such as artificial intelligence, autonomous technology, digital engineering, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability.
Lyons also established over 20 research and industry consortiums and co-founded the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre at the University of Sheffield, linking advanced manufacturing operations with university research.
