Boeing is expanding its apprenticeship program at its North Charleston plant in South Carolina. The company plans to double the number of registered apprentices from around 500 to over 1,000 within two years.

The move is part of Boeing's effort to create multiple pathways into manufacturing careers, including education partnerships and pre-employment training programs. Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling said the goal is to connect students with career opportunities earlier, through partnerships with high schools, community colleges, and technical schools.

The program allows apprentices to earn a paycheck while receiving hands-on training for manufacturing jobs. Boeing says its apprenticeship program focuses on areas including structures and composites, electrical work, mechanical work, and specialized testing.
