Boeing has announced plans to double its registered apprenticeships in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina over the next two years. The program, which allows workers to earn a paycheck while gaining hands-on experience and technical skills, will increase from 500 to 1,000 participants.

The expansion comes as Boeing invests $1 billion in building a new facility and expanding its operations in the area. According to officials, the goal is to prepare more local workers for high-paying jobs while meeting the growing demand for skilled workers in the region.

The partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor will help Boeing achieve this goal by providing resources and support for workforce development. Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling joined Boeing leaders to sign a memorandum of understanding focused on workforce development.
