Boeing Faces Reckoning as Families Demand Justice

A new Netflix documentary, Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing, has shed light on the story of Irish woman Naoise Connolly Ryan, whose husband Mick was one of the 157 people killed in the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crash in March 2019. The disaster was linked to a fault in Boeing's flight system.

Naoise and her family were awarded $29m (€25m) in a civil case earlier this month, with Naoise stating that she didn't want the focus on the money but rather on what Boeing had finally admitted to in court. The admission was seen as a moment of truth not just for her family but for all the bereaved relatives who have spent years seeking accountability.

The documentary explores what has happened since the crashes, including the lifting of the grounding order on the 737 Max and further safety incidents. It also features hidden-camera footage from Boeing's Dreamliner plant and testimony from US politicians, adding to a picture of deep concern about safety and corporate culture.
