Boeing Fined $29M in MAX Crash Lawsuit

A Chicago jury has awarded $29 million in damages to the family of Michael Ryan, an engineer who died in the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crash. The suit was brought against Boeing by Naoise Connolly Ryan, Michael's widow.

Ryan worked for the UN World Food Programme and was one of the victims in the crash that killed all 157 people on board. A UN memorial page recognized his work in various countries, including Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Ethiopia.

The case is one of the final remaining civil suits pending against Boeing following two deadly MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019. The majority of claims have been settled out of court with undisclosed terms.
