Boeing Forecasts Africa Airline Boom Requiring Over 1,200 New Planes by 2045

African airlines are expected to require nearly 1,200 new commercial aircraft by 2045 to support one of the world's fastest-growing passenger markets. This is according to Boeing's 2026 Commercial Market Outlook (CMO), which projects Africa's active commercial fleet to grow from 755 to 1,625 airplanes between now and then.

The annual growth rate of nearly 6% will double the continent's operating fleet over the next two decades. This rapid expansion is driven by factors such as rapid urbanization, a burgeoning middle class, and a young demographic profile.

Single-aisle jets will dominate future deliveries, representing 870 of the 1,200 new aircraft, or roughly 75% of total orders. Boeing notes that these modern, fuel-efficient single-aisle fleets are essential for supporting Africa's interconnected future.
