Boeing Lands $75 Million Deal for Precision-Guided Bombs
Boeing has secured a significant contract to develop and produce precision-guided explosive bombs for the US Air Force. The $75 million deal will see engineers in St. Charles, Missouri work on the BSU-111/B Payload Delivery Unit (PDU), which is capable of traveling over 300 miles.
The PDU is part of the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) system, which allows operators to strike targets from beyond enemy defenses. According to Boeing's Vice President Bob Ciesla, this technology provides an 'affordable, mass-producible option' for military operations.
Boeing has invested nearly $100 million in developing similar bombs for the Navy and is leveraging its existing JDAM infrastructure to quickly produce a high-volume of these precision-guided munitions. A recent test outside California was successful, showcasing the system's capabilities.
