Boeing Lands Bangladesh Deal After US Pressure Shifts Aviation Landscape
Bangladesh has finalized a $3.7 billion fleet expansion deal with Boeing after Washington made direct overtures to Dhaka, prompting a shift in its civil aviation landscape.
The state-owned Biman Bangladesh Airlines will receive 14 Boeing airframes as part of the agreement, which includes provisions for additional aircraft leases.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat confirmed that President Trump had urged the country to standardize its long-haul fleet with US manufacturers, citing a clear request from Washington.
The deal marks a departure from earlier plans to partner with Airbus, which was initially favored under the previous Awami League government.
