Boeing Ordered to Pay $29 Million After Deadly 737 MAX Crash

A US jury has ordered Boeing to pay $29 million in damages to the family of Michael 'Mick' Ryan, an Irish-born engineer who died in the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines crash. The civil suit was brought by Naoise Connolly Ryan, Mick's widow, who worked as a UN World Food Programme employee.

Ryan had experience working during crises around the world, including the Ebola outbreak in Liberia and with Rohingya refugees. He was recognized for his work in Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Ethiopia on a UN memorial page.

This is one of the final remaining civil suits against Boeing after two deadly MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 that claimed 346 lives. The vast majority of claims have been settled out of court with undisclosed terms.

Naoise Ryan's attorney, Steven Marks, said his client was committed to seeking accountability and justice from a jury rather than accepting money directly from Boeing.
