Boeing has been ordered to pay $29 million in damages to the family of Michael Ryan, an engineer who died in the 737 MAX crash on March 10, 2019. The verdict was handed down by a U.S. court after a civil trial, with jurors awarding the compensation to Noize Connolly Ryan, her husband's widow.

Michael Ryan worked for the United Nations World Food Programme and had been involved in humanitarian projects around the world, including building protective structures for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and medical centers in Liberia during the Ebola outbreak. The 737 MAX crash, which occurred on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302, was linked to issues with the MCAS automated control system.

Boeing expressed its condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones in the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines crashes, but noted that nearly all similar lawsuits have been resolved through settlements. The company emphasized that families have the right to seek court hearings if they choose to do so.
