Boeing Ordered to Pay $29M to Irish Family of Ethiopian Airlines Crash Victim
Boeing has been ordered to pay $29 million in damages to the Irish family of an Ethiopian Airlines crash victim. The award comes from a US jury and is one of the final remaining civil suits against Boeing following two deadly crashes that claimed 346 lives.
The victim, Michael 'Mick' Ryan, was a 39-year-old engineer with the UN World Food Programme who died in the crash near Addis Ababa in 2019. He had worked on various humanitarian projects around the world and was posthumously given the Humanitarian of the Year award by the Irish Red Cross.
The Ryan family had sought accountability from Boeing, rejecting any out-of-court settlement. Their attorney described them as 'committed to seeking justice from a jury.' The company has apologized for the crashes and acknowledged that anti-stall software was implicated in both accidents.
