Boeing Ordered to Pay $29M to Widow of Crash Victim
A civil lawsuit against Boeing has concluded with a significant award for the widow of Michael Ryan, an Irish UN employee who lost his life in one of two tragic air crashes involving the Boeing 737 MAX.
The crash on March 10, 2019, killed all 157 people on board Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302, just six minutes after takeoff from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. The same plane model was involved in a second crash, Lion Air Flight 610, which occurred 13 minutes after departure and claimed the lives of 181 passengers.
The Chicago jury has awarded $29 million in damages to Ryan's widow, Naoise Connolly Ryan, finding Boeing responsible for her husband's death. The verdict marks a significant milestone in holding the company accountable for its role in the tragedies, according to the family's lawyer.
