Boeing Partners with Archer Aviation on Strategic Refocus
Boeing has announced a strategic partnership with Archer Aviation to refocus on its core commercial and defense businesses. The deal involves Boeing selling three of its divisions - Wisk, SkyGrid, and Insitu - to Archer in exchange for nearly a 20% equity stake.
The acquired assets include Wisk's autonomy technology, SkyGrid's airspace intelligence system, and Insitu's real-world flight data. This move signals a shift from the 'who can build a flying electric aircraft' competition to 'who can construct a comprehensive low-altitude aviation system.'
Archer Aviation will now have access to these advanced technologies and can integrate them with its own eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft, drone platforms, and aviation AI capabilities.
The partnership also includes a technology-sharing arrangement where Boeing will retain rights to use Wisk's core autonomous flight technology for future commercial and military aircraft manufacturing systems.
