Boeing Pays $3.1M Penalty for 737 MAX Production Safety Lapses
Boeing has paid a $3.1 million civil penalty to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after violating federal aviation regulations at its 737 MAX manufacturing operations.
The settlement resolves allegations of production safety failures, including the January 2024 door plug blowout on an Alaska Airlines flight that forced an emergency return.
Investigations determined that four bolts intended to secure the door plug were missing when the aircraft left Boeing's Renton facility, prompting the FAA to cap Boeing's 737 production at 38 aircraft per month.
The penalty matches the figure proposed by the FAA in May 2025 and was paid without a public announcement from Boeing.
