Boeing Pays $4.7 Billion to Reacquire Spirit AeroSystems
In a $4.7 billion deal closed in December, Boeing reacquired Spirit AeroSystems, its former commercial airplane operations business sold to Onex for about $900 million in 2005.
The acquisition comes after years of quality problems in Boeing's supply chain, which the company framed as a commitment to aviation safety and a way to improve quality in its commercial airplane business.
Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said the deal was 'a pivotal moment in Boeing's history and future success.'
The company agreed to sell three of its future-flight businesses, Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid, to Archer Aviation while keeping a stake and technology access.
