Boeing Predicts Africa's Aircraft Fleet Will Double by 2045

Africa's commercial aircraft fleet is poised for significant growth over the next two decades, according to Boeing's latest Commercial Market Outlook. The US aerospace giant forecasts that Africa's fleet will more than double by 2045, reaching 1,625 aircraft from the current 755 in 2025.

This rapid expansion requires 1,165 aeroplane deliveries over the next two decades, with single-aisle aircraft accounting for approximately three-quarters of these deliveries. The demand for travel within Africa and to the Middle East is driving this growth, with passenger traffic expected to increase by 6.5% annually until 2045.

Africa-Middle East traffic is projected to grow at a rate of 7.1% per year, outpacing other major travel markets. Boeing estimates that the region's cargo fleet will rise to 150 freighters from 60, supported by growth in logistics, e-commerce, and exports.

Boeing's MD of commercial marketing for Africa and the Middle East, Shahab Matin, noted that Africa's market is entering a period of sustained growth driven by improving connectivity, expanding intraregional travel, and deeper economic ties. Meeting this expansion will require 75,000 additional aviation workers, including 22,000 pilots, 25,000 technicians, and 28,000 cabin crew.
