Boeing Prepares for Potential Strike Amid Contract Dispute with Unionized Workers

Boeing has started posting job openings for engineering and technical contractors as it prepares for a potential strike involving around 17,000 unionized workers. This move comes after members of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) rejected Boeing's proposed four-year contract by a significant margin.

The current agreement between Boeing and SPEEA expires on October 6, and despite the rejection, both sides are preparing for the possibility of a strike. According to Bryan Corliss, a SPEEA spokesman, this includes preparing information for members on what they could expect during a work stoppage.

A strike could impact Boeing's certification work on the 737 MAX 10 and 777-9 aircraft, both of which have experienced delays in obtaining certifications and entering airline service. Boeing has expressed its commitment to reaching an agreement before the current contract expires, with a spokesperson stating 'We want to reach an agreement before the current contract expires and look forward to finding a solution with SPEEA at the table.'

Boeing has already experienced significant labor disputes in recent years, including a 2024 strike involving around 33,000 International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers members that lasted for seven weeks and halted much of the company's commercial aircraft production.
