Boeing Reaches Tentative Contract Deal with Engineering Union
Boeing has reached a tentative contract agreement with its engineering union, the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), after rejecting an initial offer. The four-year deal includes higher general wage increases than the first proposal, with a 10% raise on October 16, followed by 4% raises plus merit-based increases from 2027 to 2030. This is a significant improvement over the original 3% general wage increase that SPEEA members had overwhelmingly rejected in August.
The agreement also addresses work-from-home policies and overtime limits for professional unit members. Boeing's Ben Nimmergut, vice president and functional chief engineer for production engineering, stated that the final contract offer addresses the top priorities identified by employees and SPEEA's bargaining teams, including an immediate wage increase and larger wage pools with guarantees.
SPEEA members are critical to Boeing's efforts to certify its 737 MAX 10 and 777-9 jets, which are years behind schedule. The union has not negotiated a new contract for its Northwest members since 2012, and this agreement represents a real step forward toward improving pay and work lives.
