Boeing Repurchases Spirit AeroSystems for $4.7 Billion

Boeing has completed its $4.7 billion acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems, a company it sold in 2005 for $900 million. The repurchase is part of Boeing's efforts to improve quality and safety in its commercial airplane business.

The deal was finalized after years of quality problems in Spirit's supply chain. In contrast, Boeing's sale of Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid to Archer Aviation includes a technology-sharing arrangement that preserves Boeing's access to the autonomous-flight technology for future commercial and defense aircraft.

Boeing's core business has seen an 8% year-over-year revenue increase in the second quarter, with $24.6 billion in revenue on 171 commercial deliveries. The company still carries debt from its past struggles, but it now has a record $715 billion backlog of orders.
