Boeing Returns to Philippine Skies with New 787-10 Order
Boeing has ended its 20-year drought in the Philippines after Philippine Airlines agreed to purchase 15 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners at the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow. This deal marks a significant shift for the airline, which had largely opted for Airbus aircraft since 2007.
The Boeing 787-10s will be delivered between 2031 and 2034, providing Philippine Airlines with a boost in capacity and range. The aircraft will offer over 300 seats and have a range of more than 13,000 kilometers, making it an attractive option for the airline's long-haul and high-capacity flights.
The purchase is part of Philippine Airlines' widebody fleet renewal strategy, which aims to retire older-generation jets. The airline currently operates a mix of Boeing and Airbus aircraft, including the Boeing 777-300ERs and Airbus A330 fleet. With this new order, Philippine Airlines will have a more diverse fleet, allowing it to better meet demand across various international markets.
Airbus remains a key player in Philippine Airlines' fleet strategy, with the airline committing to nine additional Airbus A350-1000s and options for five more. These aircraft will be delivered in the mid-2030s and will complement the Boeing 787-10s in the airline's widebody fleet.
