Boeing Secures Stake in Archer Aviation Amid Electric VTOL Push
Boeing and Archer Aviation have entered into a definitive agreement to strengthen both companies' positions in the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) industry.
Under the deal, Boeing will receive a 19.75% stake in Archer's outstanding Class A stock, while Archer will acquire three businesses from Boeing: Wisk, SkyGrid, and Insitu.
The acquisition of these businesses is expected to bring significant benefits to Archer, including diversification, reduced risk, and access to the eVTOL ecosystem through SkyGrid. Additionally, it removes a potential rival in Wisk, which was developing autonomous eVTOLs that could have challenged piloted eVTOLs.
The deal also provides Boeing with an opportunity to profit from the eVTOL industry while retaining access to Wisk's core autonomous flight technology for its current and next-generation commercial and defense aircraft. The stake is worth around $930 million on Archer's current valuation.
