Boeing Seeks Deal with Ethiopian Airlines for Up to 10 Long-Haul Freighters
Boeing is reportedly nearing a deal with Ethiopian Airlines to sell up to 10 long-haul freighters, including two current-generation 777F aircraft. The agreement would help Boeing bridge a gap in production until its new 777-8F freighter model becomes available.
The order is expected to involve 8-10 aircraft, although this number could be adjusted last minute. Boeing currently produces two 777F freighters per month and has requested an exemption from international emissions rules to continue producing the aircraft beyond 2027.
Ethiopian Airlines already operates a fleet of 147 jets, including 12 similar 777F cargo planes and three Boeing 767 freighters. The airline is expanding its operations as part of plans for Africa's largest airport, with phase one due to open in 2030.
